Yesterday we went to Canterbury and Dover. It took about an hour and a half to get to Canterbury and then it was another half hour to Dover. First we did Canterbury and walked around the town. It was cool because there were so many old buildings. We had a 45 minute walking tour and then a 45 minute boat tour. The boat tour had 7 of us and it was literally a paddle boat. Since it had rained a lot the river was really high, so when we were going under the bridges we all had to lay down flat. At first it was like okay you've got to be joking but then it turned out to be really fun. Our tour guide resembled Harry Potter and made really bad jokes which was actually quite entertaining.
When the boat tour was over we had an hour and a half to walk around the Cathedral and have lunch. For lunch we went to some pasty shop (pronounced [pass-tee]) which was really good. It's basically a croissant with stuff inside. I had chicken and vegetable. Walking around the Cathedral was really cool too. It was huge inside. I got to light a candle for my little munchkin Shane and my ATRC family. So happy I got to do that!
After Canterbury we were off to Dover. First, we stopped along the rocky beach to stick our feet in the English Channel. Since it was freezing though I just stuck my hands in. If it was a clearer day out we would have been able to see the shores of France from where we were standing. I'm kind of bummed I didn't get to see it, but next week I'll be in Paris so it's not too bad!
Then we went to Dover Castle. I thought it was really cool because it was used during WWII to look out for invaders. After wandering around the castle for a bit we went into the barracks where they stored ammo and had telephone communications. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside. It was really cool though because we went into all the different rooms and they played short videos on what each room was for and what was happening during that time. Once we were done at the castle we made the two hour trek back to London. We were all absolutely exhausted by the time we got back home. It was a long weekend, but a very good weekend!
